March 30: The Plague of Milan (Vol. 21, pp. 500-512)
More from Manzoni's "I Promessi Sposi" today, this time a vivid account of the plague that hit Milan in the 17th century and laid waste to most of the city's residents. Not exactly cheery reading.
I have been involved in broadcast, print and online media in New England for nearly three decades.
Currently, I am the chief editorial writer at the Brattleboro (Vt.) Reformer.
I have also been a regular contributor since 1996 to The American Reporter, the first online-only daily newspaper in America.
I am a 1983 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and 1997 graduate of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. I was also an infantry sergeant in the Massachusetts Army National Guard from 1981 until 1987.
